A modern classic look in navy and (off) white

This navy jacket and white jeans outfit was actually inspired by a “street style” look from Paris Fashion Week. No, really! 😆 It was an image of Jeane Damas in white jeans and what looked like either a navy peacoat or cape. She managed to swerve the look 180 degrees away from yacht-club territory 🧐 with a killer pair of snake print boots, and a Dior logo saddle bag. (The image I saw doesn’t appear in her Instagram feed, and I’m unable to find who owns it so can’t post it here.)

De-yachting a navy and white outfit

To me, this outfit is a great reminder that you don’t have to re-invent the wheel every day. A navy jacket and white (or off-white) jeans is an iconic classic combo. But you can use accessories to keep it fresh and modern, and to personalize the look. I opted here for some funky platform booties, a color-blocked bag in a modern shape, and a casual bandana instead of a classic silk scarf.

Rolling up the cuffs or pushing up the sleeves is another way to make the look a little more laid-back. I also chopped off the hem of the jeans, and left unfinished. Both the jeans and sweater are from my January wardrobe capsule. The jacket was purchased in Milan last fall, also shown here: A no-brainer look with a navy peacoat.

Working from a navy and ivory wardrobe capsule for the month of January has been a valuable style exercise! I’ll share some of my conclusions and take-aways next week.
