Mature Style: How to Wear Floral Jeans

I appreciate each and every share. Thank you!

Charlotte is showing the idea of how to wear floral jeans as part of the idea that floral clothing items can be worn no matter what season it is.

Even if you tend to shy away from print pants, I think my mom is showcasing how ageless they can be and how anyone can wear them with confidence.

Quote of the day: “We all have ability. The difference is how we use it.” Stevie Wonder

One of my abilities is to give you the confidence you need to wear the things you like but may think that they wouldn’t work for you. Too many times we have an unreasonable conversation in our head that has been ingrained in us.

How many times have you said, “I like that look on others, but it wouldn’t work on me?” If those words have ever been part of your vocabulary, then I hope you reevaluate and let me sway you.
Because there is nothing more freeing than wearing what makes your heart go pitter-patter. NOT just wearing something because you’ve been told it is good for your age, body shape, or style.

I think print pants have gotten a bad rap over the years. Heck, I even had to twist my mom’s arm to buy these, yet they even got a couple of compliments when she wore them out this day.

Lesley showcased an entirely different floral clothing item made appropriate for the winter here in Arizona. And now Charlotte will give the lowdown on how to wear floral pants.

How to Wear Floral Jeans in the Winter

The easiest thing to make any clothing item transition to the colder months is to add layers. Not only does this keep you warm but it also adds interest to any look.

In fact, it’s even more modern when the layers hang below each other instead of being hidden. That’s what Charlotte did with her longer ivory tunic shirt and yellow leather jacket.

The best thing about how to wear floral jeans in winter is the fact that you can pull out the colors that are in the print to make the outfit match nicely.
You saw me style a pair of floral shorts (see them here) that are similar to my mom’s floral jeans with my color recipe in the past. The secret? Start with neutrals, then add in color, and don’t forget to dip your toe into print mixing. Wouldn’t these jeans look great with a navy and white striped shirt under the yellow jacket too?

Floral jeans like this almost lend themselves to the colder months even more than the warmer months because you can layer them up so easily. And you can choose if your layers are lightweight or heavier. That makes it work no matter where you live.

Adding Color to a Mature Style Look

Just because we are mature women, does not mean we can’t incorporate color into our looks. In fact, most of us tend to look more alive when we wear color next to our face.

Sure, finding the colors that are better for you can take some practice. I’ve talked about having an online color analysis done and it can be extremely helpful. But suffice it to say that there is a ton of psychology when it comes to color, and it’s better for you and those who see you if you are wearing it.

This yellow leather jacket is the brand Zara which many of you might consider a young girls’ store. Charlotte picked the jacket up thrifting, but I’ve taken both my mom and Lesley to the store, and we have all found things to buy.
Remember, just because a brand only shows young girls for their marketing, does not necessarily mean older women can’t wear the items.

You can see how Charlotte wore this same jacket with a green dress in the past.

The Accessories that Add the Extra

From the side photos, you can see that my mom added a scarf to the brim of her hat. This hat was found at the dollar store, and it goes to show how even a cheap hat can have personality with a little help.
My mom made this scarf with leftover material from the blouse she’s worn here in the past. I love how the scarf gives a nod to print mixing, yet you might not even register that since the two prints are far apart.

Charlotte then chose a light pink earring made by my friend, Joan, of Frannie & Elinor. Even though the top or jacket doesn’t have pink in them, it’s a great example of how you don’t always have to match everything in your outfit.
The light pink works fabulously because of the lightness of the blouse and hat. Think of it as a composition of colorways.

Details of the Floral Jeans

This pair of floral jeans is Chicos So-Slimming style (you can see all of their options here). These are well-loved by many women because the hidden panel is meant to slim the look of your tummy. Most of these styles (but not all) are also pull-on pants which makes them easier for bathroom breaks.
In fact, all three of us showcased these so-slimming pants when we worked with Chicos (which is where we met Lesley, see all the fun here) many years ago.

Insider tip: My pair of so-slimming pants did shrink when I washed them. If you like how they fit when you buy them, it’s best to be extra careful when washing the item as the care label may be incorrect. It was years ago, and we know shrinkage is all dependent on the material and how you launder things.
You can read about my laundry tips that I blogged about recently here.

The advantage of any print pants is that they will camouflage any lumps and bumps that you don’t want to show. Seriously, my mom tried on a pair of solid-colored pants the same day, and they bagged in the crotch area. You wouldn’t see that with these floral jeans.
While it’s wonderful to get a fabulous fit with your jeans, you can hide the fact they aren’t perfect with a print. It’s because your eye is too busy looking at the print to notice anything else.

If you are unsure about the idea of print pants, then I recommend finding an inexpensive pair at your local thrift store. If there aren’t any thrift stores near you, then visit my favorite online ones:

Mature Style and Sneakers

Yes, as a mature woman, sneakers should be in your closet. There are so many fun and fashionable options available, and the fact that they can be more comfortable than other footwear is the ideal choice.

Since Charlotte’s floral jeans are darker in nature, then a pair of black sneakers help ground the look. You can see how we had tromped through the dirt before these photos.

Insider tip: Washing up the white part of any sneakers is super easy with the Magic Eraser (found on Amazon here). I’ve used them for my white boots as shown here.
