What I wore and what I cooked last week

Happy glorious Sunday, everyone!  Welcome to my synopsis of What I wore and what I cooked last week!

It seems many of you enjoy watching how I put together looks from clothing which has lived in my closet for awhile.

So, we will start out with three different looks for What I wore last week.

WHAT I WORE TO VOTE

What I wore

Without going deep into politics, I would like to encourage everyone (no matter your affiliation) to vote in your primaries.

I was recently told by someone that it doesn’t matter, they would wait for the general election…but selecting just the right candidates to run in that general election is so important.

I believe many times we see the results of lazy election participation reflected in the people running our governments…so please do your research and VOTE!

This is what I wore when Mr. B and I ran out to the polls last week which are currently open for early voting.

The items I wore have lived in my wardrobe for awhile, but I have never paired them together.  Now I wonder why!

What I wore

The tunic top is an older JJILL knit top with a print that some may call raisin and some may call purple.

The pull-on pants are from Soft Surroundings. 

I only recently noticed the matching color and I do love some light pattern mixing and mixing textures.

I actually paired it with a necklace I bought at a garage sale that has a touch of olive and gold in it and my gold metallic loafers.

WHAT I WORE FOR A SPECIAL DELIVERY

What I wore

Mr. B was fishing when it was time to deliver gifts to grandchildren for Valentine’s Day!

Each of the three received a special bag with books, stickers, and a special gift just for the individual child.

Again, I did a little light pattern mixing.

What I wore

The colors in the Joan Oloff sneakers, the striped top from Loft, and my Talbot’s jacket are all in the same color family.  That is why mixing animal print and stripes works here.

I love a look like this and there were no wrinkles after lots of hugs.  Oh yes, I am wearing my Talbot’s pull on jeggings.

I left with a smile and three Valentine’s in my heart!

WHAT I WORE FOR OUT AND ABOUT

What I wore

I first showed you this Talbot’s notch collar sweater blazer on Friday.  It arrived during a cold snap so my cost per wear is already quite low at the 60% off winter clearance price.

It is now even lower…and I love this blazer.  I am wearing the Spice Heather color in XL.  I really love it and know it will be so much fun to have it next cold season as well.

I also wore it to church last night, but styled in a different way….I can do so much with it in my current wardrobe.

For going out and about, I wore it with a Touch of Cool denim tunic from Chico’s (the new one is so cute), and my favorite jeans from JCP.  The accessories included bronze flats, brooch, and Patricia Nash bracelet.

WHAT I COOKED: GARLIC CHICKEN PASTA

What I cooked

This was so good, I just had to share it with you…warning, though, you must love GARLIC!

Recently, I shared in a post about about my CHICKEN CHILI how strongly I feel in making my own chicken stock over using store brand. 

I showed how I use the stock for one meal and save the rest for another meal.  This recipe was what I made with the remainder of my homemade stock.

When you see a touch of carrot and celery in the picture, it is from the homemade stock…you might want to review how I do that in the Chicken Chili post.

A member of this amazing audience shared recently that her husband made the chili and they both loved it and it is now a keeper for their favorites list.

I personally think this second recipe is even better…but I love Garlic.

Here we go…..

Easy Garlic Chicken Pasta – for those who really love garlic

What I cooked

You Will Need:

4 Tablespoons of Olive Oil (not EVOO)

3 Tablespoons of butter

1 small onion, chopped (I use yellow sweet)

7 garlic cloves – minced

1 ½ cups of chicken stock. (left over from the first recipe)

What I cooked

1 cup of heavy cream (I use half and half)

½ bag of fresh spinach

1-2 cups of shredded chicken ( I froze shredded chicken left over from the chili recipe and used it here)

¾ cup finely grated fresh Parmesan Cheese

1 teaspoon of Italian seasonings

2 cups of your favorite cooked pasta

What I cooked

The Process:

  1. Heat in a large skillet the olive oil and butter (of course you can do only one)
  2. Saute the chopped onion until a little brown.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic
  4. Pour in the chicken stock (again, it is my leftover stock with lots of seasoning). It is ok with me if it includes celery and carrot from the first go round.
  5. Stir in the cream, or half & half, or even evaporated milk
  6. Let this sauce simmer, covered, for about 15 minutes, and stir often.
  7. Add the fresh spinach and simmer until it is soft.
  8. Gently fold in the shredded chicken and cook for about 5 minutes.
  9. Stir in the parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning…or just use rosemary.
  10. B likes angel hair pasta so I use the Barilla brand fortified with protein.  Just cook your favorite.  You can serve it over the pasta or stir it into the sauce.

On Friday, Jane left this comment: “Pam, this is off topic for today’s post, so you might want to save it for later. I’d like for you to talk about socks, high length and low. You wear cute, comfy shoes. I too, have tender funky feet and feel most comfortable with a layer between my skin and the shoe material. Somehow knee hi stockings seem out of place and dowdy with most casual shoes. Ankle high socks seems out of place and really low cut sock sink into my shoes and rub. Low cut socks look weird barely showing at the top edges of my shoes. Should I wear a color that is neutral to my shoes and or pants or should I embrace it and do a contrasting color or match my shirt? What’s a girl to do? Summer can’t come soon enough so I can pull out my sandals and free my toes! Thanks for your thoughts.”

Hi Jane, first of all the only time I wear actual socks are with my athletic shoes and inside of my boots or booties.  With my flats, I am wearing no-show footwear and after trying many brands, I like best the wear and affordability of PEDS at Target.

My favorites are the little ones that just slip over the top of the foot…since my toes are the funky part.  They are called The PEDS Women’s Gripper Tactile Mule Socks.

My friend and blog assistant, Leigh Ann, turned me on to this brand a couple of years ago and I wear some version of PEDS almost every day.  I really don’t like my socks to show unless they are with my athletic sneakers.

I am wearing them here with my Blair Easy Spirit Mules.
