David Beckham has a lot of things we want: a glistening career in soccer spanning 20 years, chiseled looks that would make even razor-jawed Timothée Chalamet envious, and a wardrobe full of Louis Vuitton, Supreme, and Dior. He’s also got an excellent footwear collection made up of Dior’s Oblique sneaks, vintage and now ultra-rare Ultraboosts, hard-to-come-by Adidas Tubular Invaders, and more than one pair of sold-out Adidas Super Courts. With that in mind, Beckham isn’t just about exclusive sneakers.
Case in point: we just spotted him in a pair of easy-to-find sneaks, which will sit neatly in your own wardrobe. The 46-year-old is currently in Miami, where his eldest son Brooklyn married Nicola Peltz at a star-studded beach-side ceremony. (Elton John, Eva Longoria, and Mel B were on the guest list.) In between preparations, though, Beckham has been kicking back in his downtime gear, which consists of denim shorts, a white tee, and a signature cap. On his feet? A pair of $55 Vans.
The sneakers in question are a pair of the brand’s classic slip-ons, which were first introduced in 1977 and have endured their popularity for over 40 years. Initially, they had a boat shoe-esque silhouette, but swiftly adopted a more similar build to the pre-existing Vans Era, which came with a skateboard friendly heel and padded collar. That being said, as Becks demonstrates, the sneaks aren’t just for ramp-riding. They’re some of the most versatile, season-less sneakers on the planet. They’ll look as good with a pair of baggy slacks and a puffer jacket in the depths of winter, as well as with a pair of shorts and a tee (a la Beckham) in the Miami heat.
And while it might come as a shock to some that Beckham has decided to throw on a pair of sneaks that the majority of us could afford to go out and buy right this second, it shouldn’t. While he’s decked out in designer labels for his red carpet appearances, Beckham has long demonstrated a humble penchant for an off-duty wardrobe comprising affordable products, notably Dickies sweatshirts and H&M knits. Meanwhile, his fashion-conscious wife Victoria, who probably has a say in what he dresses himself in, is known for rewearing her own outfits.
What’s more, while Vans might be a more budget-friendly brand, it has had immense pick-up from some of the world’s biggest stars. A$AP Rocky is a keen wearer and even has his own partnership with the Anaheim-based label, Rihanna has a soft spot for the ultra-comfortable kicks, Justin Bieber can’t get enough of them, and Harry Styles is a regular wearer of the Vans Anaheim Authentics.
Want some for yourself? Below are the exact ones Beckham is sporting over in Miami right now.
