Here’s When Every Moon Knight Episode Comes Out on Disney+

The Marvel Cinematic Universe tends to be at its best when it slightly veers from the house formula. Sure, stuff like Avengers: Endgame and Captain America: Civil War are great, but some of the stuff that most stands out is when Marvel tries to put its characters and serial storytelling prowess into new boxes. Think about the political/conspiracy thriller approach that Captain America: The Winter Soldier took, or the comedic tone of Thor: Ragnarok. Think about how WandaVision took its homages to different eras of television and really made us question what we were watching, how we were watching it, and what would happen next.

That approach is certainly relevant when discussing Moon Knight, the latest Disney+ series to enter Marvel’s ever-expanding franchise. Starring Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke, Moon Knight is the MCU’s take on a psychological thriller—and comes with all the open plot threads, creepy moments, and bizarre twists that you’d expect from a blockbuster of that genre. If The Winter Soldier was the MCU’s take on something like The Parallax View or Three Days of the Condor, then Moon Knight is shooting to be something like Shutter Island or Memento. As the series goes on, it also even manages to incorporate the adventure tendencies of Indiana Jones or The Mummy.

Which is all to say: this is a show you’ll have to stick with to get satisfying answers. Would Memento or Shutter Island be anywhere near what we know them to be if they were giving everything away in the first act? No, of course not—Moon Knight is going to give us some fun moments, like an exciting chase scene and the first tease of Hawke’s Arthur Harrow—early on, but really bring the hammer down as we get more and more into it. And as such, it’s important to make sure you’re attentive and engaged in these early episodes, because you know those twists that are coming will make it all worth it in the end.
