This past week, I was messaging a friend and issuing her a challenge. We had a friendly competition going, and I was teasing her that I would do something that would give me an advantage. Her response to me was, “I double-dog dare you.”

That gave me a chuckle since I hadn’t heard that phrase since I was a kid. I even thought it was so funny that I told Joe about our conversation later that night. He also agreed that he hadn’t heard that saying since he was a child.

I chose my word of the year in December, and my word is GIVE. I’ve been trying to find more ways to give in all areas of my life. I want to give of my time, affections, resources, and knowledge. When I heard about a book called, The Blessed Life, I decided to read it since it talked about giving back.

This book talks about tithing and why we should tithe and give back to the church. The book goes into details about the Old Testament versus the New Testament, what is under the Law, and what is under Grace. A lot of this book centers around Malachi, the last book in the Old Testament.

Malachi 3:10

10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

Most verses in the Bible talk about NOT testing the Lord, but in Malachi 3:10, the Lord is inviting you to test Him. The author of the book discussed this aspect, and then he issued a challenge. He said, “I double-dog dare you to test the Lord with this verse.”

WHAT?!? He issued a double-dog dare! I hadn’t heard that phrase in 30+ years, and it is now mentioned to me twice in two days. I don’t believe in coincidences, so my ears perked up when this happened. Wouldn’t you know it? I got an email about 10 minutes later that said I had gotten paid. I smiled to myself, thinking that the Lord was testing me instead of the other way around. I took out my checkbook, wrote a check to the church and then went about my day.

A couple of days before this happened, I had been in negotiations with a company about a sponsored post. All of these companies have a budget for each campaign, and they said that their budget was completely spent. They gave me an offer, and I accepted the campaign. Typically, that is the end of the story until you get the contract to sign.

About three hours after I wrote the check to the church, I got an email about the campaign. The brand said, “we have good news! We have found additional funds, and we can now offer you additional compensation.” Who does that? Why would a company offer you more money after you have agreed to a lower amount?

Ephesians 3:20-21

20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

I wasn’t testing the Lord, but I was still blessed with an increase over the amount that I had given. It is a big circle, you give to the Lord and He blesses you abundantly. You give more to the Lord, and He blesses you abundantly more. A blessed life doesn’t have to evolve around monetary funds. Your blessing could come as peace, joy, love, family, healing, etc.

I’ve always considered my life to be blessed. There have been hard times and lots of challenges that I hope to never have to go through again. However, I feel blessed beyond measure. This book wasn’t me trying to get more, but about learning how to give more. I don’t need to test the Lord, I already know that He can move mountains, heal the sick, and bless our lives in ways that we could never imagine.

Now I’m issuing a challenge to you; I double-dog dare you to test the Lord. Test Him with your finances, time, and heart. Wait and see how He blesses you abundantly more than you can even imagine.
