Restyling a Mannequin- Belts Matter
I had a tough time getting pictures of this mannequin because she was in a store window and the reflection was intense. I did get a photo of the back, which shows part of her “struggle”.
I loved the dress, but the styling left a lot to be desired for me. Self-fabric belts are never my favorite but this one has sagged pretty badly. I do understand the staff dressed her and left her, but if a belt sags on an unmoving mannequin, it’ll certainly do that and worse on a moving woman.
Here’s the back of her. The wrap is very long and I suspect this mannequin is 5’10” or more.

Here I am in the outfit…pretend I’m wearing better shoes for this dress 🙂 I like the pieces separately, but together they feel dragged down. I’m wearing a regular which is 51 1/2″ long. The petite is 48 1/2″ long, the plus is 53″ long, and the tall is 54″ long.

There were no earth-shattering changes here, but I do prefer to replace self belts on everything but coats. This one has a decidedly “monks robe” vibe, probably because it’s so narrow. The center jacket feels too boxy for the dress and the denim jacket on the right feels too dark and heavy. Both belts feel too stiff on the drapey linen.
The winner for me would be the one on the left with the white cardigan which gives a soft shape to the dress without any hard edges. Both jackets feel too structured with this soft linen dress.
What are your thoughts? Do you keep the fabric belts or switch them out?
Thanks for reading ladies and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.
