We Sure Are Ready for Eight Blood-Soaked Episodes of The Boys Season 3

91 total views

It’s been a while since the last blood-soaked, gut-filled season of Amazon Prime Video’s superhero send-up The Boys, but man are we glad to have it back. Season 3 picks up right where Season 2 left off; Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid) have both gone legit in their fight against the Supes, with Butcher’s crew working under the CIA umbrella and Hughie working as the right hand to Victoria Neumann (Claudia Doumit)—who may or may not be the mysterious figure who can make people’s heads explode whenever the hell she feels like it. Uh oh.

Meanwhile, Homelander (Antony Starr) is growing increasingly unstable after his girlfriend, Stormfront (Aya Cash), was both exposed as a literal Nazi and defeated by our heroes and Ryan, a.k.a. Homelander Jr. (Cameron Crovetti) last season. Not good for the most powerful being on the planet to be losing his mind little by little. Not good at all!

The last time The Boys was airing, back in Fall 2020, it was in the midst of a Marvel and DC drought; in the time since, we’ve seen the MCU embrace the multiverse, the DCEU release the true vision of one of it’s fans’ favorite directors (a vision it will probably never return to again), and a smash hit standalone film where Batman loves wearing eyeshadow (and, probably, listening to My Chemical Romance, too). In short: there’s a lot of good stuff for showrunner Eric Kripke to mine ideas from.

But what makes The Boys more than just a spoof/satire show is the fact that, yes, it brings some of those genre tropes to task, but it also functions as a not only worthy but exceptional entry in its own genre. Some people may watch The Boys because they hate superhero movies and shows, but most people who love the show probably love it because they love those other superhero shows—and just appreciate seeing things go farther. It’s the violence. The cursing. The no-holds-barred R-rating. All the things that Marvel and DC are so scared to go all-in on (outside of the rare Deadpool and Suicide Squad exceptions) are front and center in The Boys. And that’s why we tune in each and every week.

Here’s everything you need to know about the episodes in The Boys Season 3.
