The Rock Explains His Surprise Credit Scene Cameo in New DC Movie

DC’s League of Super-Pets spoilers follow.

DC’s League of Super-Pets may be an animated comedy rather than a live-action serious affair. But it’s still a superhero movie, which means that it’s almost contractually obliged to feature extra scenes once the credits start rolling.

In the bonus scene, Superman and his best boy Krypto are approached by two mysterious figures. The person has a bald head and is wearing a dark outfit, while the dog has black fur and glowing yellow eyes with a glowing yellow, lightning bolt-edged triangle on his chest.

Clearly, the characters are Black Adam and his doggo, Anubis—the latter created exclusively for the film—and while this could be a funny gag seeing as how Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays Krypto in Super-Pets and Black Adam in, well, Black Adam, the actor has hinted that it is some major set up for future projects.

“THANK YOU for making SUPER PETS the #1 MOVIE… but did you stay til the VERY END credits,” Johnson wrote on his Instagram.

“You guys already know how I feel about SUPERMAN vs BLACK ADAM. The Indestructible Force meets the Immovable Object. With the DC SUPER PETS UNIVERSE we had an opportunity to build out this awesome animated universe in a big, fun, cool way.

“So three-ish @Teremana’s later, I came up with an end credits idea… Allow me to introduce the baddest, meanest, antihero canine walkin’ God’s green earth…. ANUBIS. Complete with his new favorite toy–squeezy Bruce Batman.

“At @sevenbucksprod we have major plans to build out the BLACK ADAM DC UNIVERSE and now the DC SUPER PETS UNIVERSE with our partners @wbpictures & @dccomics – and SUPER PETS & BLACK ADAM is just the beginning. Enjoy the movie and enjoy our Seven Bucks Easter Eggs.”

While we don’t think Johnson is hinting at a crossover between the animated and live-action movie universes (although it’s absolutely within the realms of possibility), it’s interesting to see how he and his production company are so heavily involved in DC plans going forward.

Also, Johnson’s reference to Superman vs Black Adam—or SUPERMAN vs BLACK ADAM, as he writes it—sounds a bit like a comeback to audiences at Comic-Con booing him when asked which character would win in a fight…

DC’s League of Super-Pets is out in cinemas now, while Black Adam is set for an October 21 release.
