Dressing Diaries- Latest Finds at J. Jill in Cool Colors
Happy Friday, ladies. I’m used to walking into J. Jill to find a flood of warm colors, so last week was a pleasant surprise.
If you’re new here, welcome. A dressing room diary is when I go into a local store for a try-on session so you can see what’s new and how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I am 5’4″ and weigh around 134 lbs. I have broad shoulders with straight hips, a long torso, and long arms. I often buy one size larger on top. You’ll see me try on clothes in colors and shapes that may or may not flatter me because I want you to see what’s in the stores and get some styling ideas. I tell you what sizes I am wearing to help you understand how things run.
J.Jill has streamlined its sizing so that every style is now available as regular in sizes XS-4X. Petite and tall are still available in some popular styles, and all sizes are the same price.
These are J.Jill’s bootcut jeans with a subtle raw hem that are flying out of my local store. This 8 petite is too large and short for me, but that was my only choice to show you, so I ordered a pair 🙂 They have a nice high-rise and soft wash. They are currently 30% off. The 3/4 sleeve Pima cotton tee comes in 8 colors and 1 floral print. It’s low hip length, so you could wear it over skinny pants or leggings. The medium petite would be better for me because with 3/4 sleeves, the body length is most important. I’m wearing the clearwater color, which appears baby blue on their website, is closer to periwinkle in person.
I tossed this sweater poncho over the look. I love the shaping of this poncho which will look nice over so many things this fall. It comes in this ink blue or birch heather.
These slim ponte pants are a deep navy and come in 3 other neutrals…currently 30% off. Their pull-on styling makes them super easy to wear, and the faux fly front means you can wear them with shorter tops. The fabric is fabulous for easy care and travel too! I consider this small petite a touch short on me, so they’re running true to size because most petite pants are too short on me. They’re also currently 30% off.
The white tunic shirt also comes in black, which would be fun with these twill pants in flax heather. The tunic is a cotton/polyester/spandex blend with lots of stretch. The 3/4 sleeves mean this would also be a much better length on me in petite.
These wearever slim leg pants come in 3 colors, I am wearing navy blue. I’m wearing the regular with the hem folded under one time. The petite inseam is a full 2 1/2″ shorter, which seems like a big difference to me. The kimono sweater is swimming on me, but I was anxious to try this yummy color on, and it’s the smallest size they had. The website says it runs true to size, but the medium has a chest measurement of around 50 1/2″, so I would suggest you size down.
This everyday v-neck pullover is a great basic in 4 colors, I’m wearing navy blue. I just love how this sweater fits. It’s a lightweight knit that drapes nicely and will layer under things easily. It’s a great match with these slim-leg pants for a cool-toned column of color 🙂
This Tencel shirt comes in the most stunning delphinium color, white, and this blue stripe. It’s got a great relaxed shape to tuck or not. The center back length is Medium 27½”, R 2X 29″, P Medium 26″, T Medium 29″. Surprisingly, these sleeves are not too short on me in this petite because of their relaxed shaping, so I think it runs a bit large.
Here’s the same poncho popped over this look. I love how the striped sleeves look with the directional knit on this sweater cape poncho.
This soft luxe shirt is really lovely! It’s a woven rayon that feels like silk and is machine washable. It comes in 4 colors, this is the midnight sky. It has a subtly flared cropped sleeve that showcases your bracelets 🙂 The boyfriend jeans come in four colors with a rolled hem you can adjust to your desired length. I’m wearing the brooklin wash. The pine green and iconic wash are also cool-toned.
This curved hem knit shirt is so soft and comfy. It comes in cream and this stunning, cool-toned peacock color. It’s a cotton/Tencel/spandex blend that’s stretchy enough that I simply pulled it over my head. I think this runs large, so suggest you can size it down. It has a subtle shirttail hemline that looks nice untucked too.
This long cardigan comes in four colors, I am wearing the blue sage. It’s a cotton/modal blend that’s thin enough for warm fall days. I have a real fondness for v-neck cardigans because they duplicate rather than fight with the neckline of a button-front shirt.
This tunic top was displayed on the hanger outside my dressing room which I “borrowed” to style for you. It looked like nothing on a hanger, but I knew the cowl neckline would be a winner. It’s got a slight A-line shape, so I would not size this up because it has plenty of fullness. I would again prefer the petite one for me because the center back lengths are regular 29½”, petite 28″, and tall 31″.
Here are some more finds from J.Jill.
Thanks for reading, and be sure to wear what makes you feel confident.
