She-Hulk Has People Shipping Wong and Madisynn

The following contains spoilers for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Episode 4.

How does the Rihanna lyric go again? We found love in a hopeless place”? That seems to be just what happened to Wong (Benedict Wong), one of the most popular characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in Episode 4 of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. After helping She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany) get Emil Blonsky granted parole in Episode 3, Wong seemed thrilled to just sit at home, watch The Sopranos, and groove to the theme song. Instead, though, thanks to a reckless amateur abuser of the mystic arts named DONNY BLAZE, Wong crossed paths with a delightful young lady named Madisynn (spelled with a Y, but not where you thiiiiink). And the rest is history.

The Hopeless Place that Rihanna mentioned—as it pertains to Wong—is his continued annoyances after Donny Blaze sends Madisynn into his home (via another dimension, where she gives up her own blood and ends up wielding an animal heart) with Sopranos spoilers galore. But the two bond throughout the episode—by the time she shows up as his witness in court, she’s got a cute nickname for him (“Wongers!”) and is offering some faulty legal advice about what to do when one gets caught texting and driving.

Marvel has historically had issues with finding couples that have actual chemistry together. For every Wanda and Vision that actually make us feel something, we get couples like Wong’s pal Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) who kind of seem like they’ve hardly ever been in a room together before. Sorry to them but it’s true!

Fans online have noticed this too, and have been drawn to the chemistry between the Sorcerer Supreme and the party girl. Some have even advocated for a spin-off, and we wouldn’t be against it.

So people have been drawn to the fact that Wong—despite his initial standoffishness—seems to actually enjoy Madisynn’s friendly presence. By the time they’re seen in the episode’s credits stinger, they’ve moved onto a new show (This is Us), and Madisynn is quizzing Wongers on some mixers (a Yak Milk cocktail? Leftover from the wedding? Is this a Multiverse of Madness reference?) and his favorite drink (Gin + Tonic!). Can we keep these two together please? It doesn’t even have to be romantic, they are just a great pairing. If Madisynn isn’t going to be the Pepper to Wong’s Tony, can she at least be the Ned to his Peter Parker?

Let’s make it happen, people.

Who plays Madisynn in She-Hulk?

While we all know that Benedict Wong has been playing Wong in the MCU for years (and are intrigued and excited to see his role in Netflix’s adaptation of The Three-Body Problem next year!), the actress playing Madisynn is a bit more of an unknown factor.

Patty Guggenheim plays Madisynn, and she’s no stranger to TV comedies. She’s had small roles in Reno 911!, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Superstore, Mr. Mayor, Modern Family, and The Middle among others. She also played a main cast role in a Roku Channel show called Florida Girls which was well-received (85% on Rotten Tomatoes) but only lasted for a single season.

If you’re wondering how Guggenheim ended up on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, you’ll just have to look to the director; Kat Coiro, who directed six of the nine episodes of She-Hulk, was Guggenheim’s director on three episodes of Florida Girls and also directed her in a pilot called Daddy Issues that didn’t get picked up back in 2018.

If you want to find out more about the real life Madisynn, you can follow Guggenheim on Twitter and Instagram.
