The White Lotus Hits Sicily With 7 Episodes of Nightmare Vacation for Season 2

It’s time for another vacation. After the first go-around of writer/director Mike White’s HBO series The White Lotus dominated television conversations of summer 2021 with talk of rimming, pooping, and killing, Season 2 is hoping for a similar result—but this time taking over the winter of 2022.

Season 2 comes to viewers with expectations, presumably, through the roof; Season 1 came with an exceptional cast (Jake Lacy played wonderfully against type and both Murray Bartlett and Jennifer Coolidge won Emmys, among others) and wound up winning 10 Emmys in the Limited Series category. So how does Season 2 up the game? By heading overseas to Sicily, that’s how.

If anyone, for any reason, had a doubt—it’s time to stop. White’s series returns as confident as ever, immediately pulling viewers into the lives of a another group of characters who you can’t help but be curious about—whether they’re somewhat likable or fully detestable. The show remains brilliantly-written, sexually-charged at every turn, while telling a brand new story of dark comedy with social commentary threaded in. And with it comes an entirely new cast (with the exception of Jennifer Coolidge’s hilarious Tanya, whom you cannot possibly blame White for not wanting to let go) that includes people like Aubrey Plaza, Michael Imperioli, Theo James, Haley Lu Richardson, and F. Murray Abraham.

And while the glory of The White Lotus is kind of having no idea what direction this zany, potent story is going to take, it’s safe to say that you’ll be on the hook from the moment you see the hotel staff waving as the rich—and inevitably, in some cases, doomed—guests pull up to The White Lotus’s Sicily location.
