I appreciate each and every share. Thank you!

The month is going to be chock full of bright colors because…

Bright Color Challenge

I hope you’ll all join in somehow, someway. Even if you don’t share your outfit photos, just the fact that you are wearing bright colors will help your mood!!

Any bright color added to your outfit classifies. As well as the fact that each of our definitions of bright colors is different. So don’t worry if it’s not “correct”. This is all for fun!!
BTW, even white jeans are bright and a fabulous way to lighten up an outfit!!

If you want to join:
1-You can add your outfit in a comment on my Facebook page to the pinned post at the top of my feed. Each week will have a different pinned post, so feel free to add yours multiple times if you wear bright colors on different days of that week.
2-You can email me your outfit to
3-On Instagram you can share in a post or even in your stories. Just make sure to tag me at @Jtouchofstyle so I see it and include the #BrightColorJanuary with it.

I will share 6 favorite outfits in my weekly Daily Outfits post as well as share all of my outfits in my Instagram/Facebook stories. Make sure to share your handle if you want to be tagged.
Your “handle” is your name as it appears on Facebook and Instagram. For instance, my handle is @Jtouchofstyle.

I think you would enjoy it if you signed up for the emails below. Besides the free eBook, my email family gets personal tidbits of what’s going on in my life along with other happenings, sales, information, giveaways, extra photos, and interesting articles.

Jeans: Banana Republic~~Sweater: I knit it~~Boots: thrifted

I still have many darker winter clothing items so I wanted to showcase how you can add a lighter/brighter piece. While the pants, boots, and sweater are all dark, you can see how the pink, velvet top underneath just creates a much lighter look.

This sweater is one that I knit many years ago. Want to see the back (which is the best part) and some of the open details? Then check out my video on Instagram or Facebook.

I did use my Maggie snaps magnets to hold the shoulders of the sweater up on my shoulders. It tends to fall down otherwise and even though I sewed in elastic to try to keep them tighter, this works the best of any trick I’ve tried.
You don’t even see the magnets, but even if they weren’t covered, they would look intentional since there is one on each side.

The jeans are very old and coated (not leather). I LOVE the coated (and leather) jeans because they don’t collect pet hair.

Skirt: No label ~~Top: No label~~Boots: Target

For the first day of my Bright Color Challenge, I went all out for our brunch date. Heck, we even went to the grocery store after brunch, and I received a lot of smiles from people. (They probably thought we never made it home after the NYE party, haha. Little do they know I was in bed by 10 pm)

You can see how this skirt moves when I shake my hips since that’s the best part about it.
And thanks to Beth for suggesting that I wear this sequin top again after seeing it in my sparkle post.

The white cowboy boots have been a lifesaver. I was planning to wear ankle boots, but the weather didn’t cooperate, so I could hide a fuzzy pair of socks in these boots to stay warm.

And this necklace (that you can’t really see in these photos) was too long, but because it was a delicate chain, using an elastic rubberband didn’t work. So I found another solution in this video.

Jeans: Banana Republic~~Cardigan: from Naomi & Ruth~~Sneakers: Madden Girl-thrifted

This cardigan was made for the Bright Color Challenge. I bought it at the re-opening of Naomi & Ruth, and she sold out of them right away. I paired it with neutrals today, but I would just as easily wear it with my bright pink pants or orange pants.

I’m wearing the crochet top under the cardigan that you saw here. I love how the sleeves turn up over the cardigan.

One of the things I notice is I rarely wear sneakers in the winter because of bare ankles. So I tried it today with my fleece Sheec socks to see if they would make me warmer. I’ll let you know. I found these felted ivory sneakers while thrifting years ago. The other thing I should try is to wear them with fun socks showing.

The knitted beret is one that I knitted. And the pin on my cardigan says “Diva” as seen in the top photo. My earrings spell out Love and can be found on Amazon for less than $10.

Shorts: Topshop~~Cardigan: Cabi-Goodwill ~~Boots: G by Guess

I just love the idea of wearing my workout leggings as tights especially when they are so fun and whimsical. And they make it easy to wear my velvet shorts and stay warm.

The top half is an open-shoulder t-shirt that I basically made into a twin-set with a short sleeve cardigan. Here’s the open-shoulder shirt under my hand-knit fair-isle cardigan last year. Even if you don’t like the open-shoulder trend anymore, there are certainly ways to make it work using what you have in your closet.

BTW, one reason I wore the leggings today is to make it easy to change into my workout gear for our Tuesday night zoom with FitPhx. I am also wearing my sports bra, LOL!

Dress: Derhy-thrifted~~Sweater: Astr~~Boots: Macys

I found this dress at a thrift shop in Palm Springs. It’s a brand I had never heard of, but it was new with tags on and marked down to $15 (originally $189 euros). I looked up the brand and it’s from France.
I figured it was perfect for my bright color challenge.

Since it’s a short sleeve dress, I layered a mini turtleneck over it with OTK boots.

The proportions of this mini sweater are different, but I like how it doesn’t cover the entire dress, yet keeps me warm. The mini sweater came with a matching sweater camisole (seen here on Tuesday), but I believe in mixing things up.

And under the boots, I’m wearing my compression socks. They not only keep me warm but help with circulation.

Pants: Ann Taylor-thrifted~~Sweatshirt: no label~~Sneakers: Billabong

This isn’t the full outfit but you’ll see that as part of a blog post at the end of the month. I want to point out that this pair of orange pants are “work pants”. Yet I love them for the colorfulness and straight leg detail.

You’ve seen me wear them here as part of a casual outfit and I think that cuffing them makes them less “officeish” too. Today, I only cuffed them once.

The sweatshirt is one that I bought as athletic wear, but no one needs to know that except me. It looks like an interesting topper and I like its softness and warmth.

These sneakers were a pair I bought in Palm Springs and are light-colored leopard. Can you see the black around the ankle? That’s faux fur I added because the canvas rubbed against my ankle too much.

As for the accessories, the necklace is doubled to make it shorter and the earrings are from my friends that make all kinds of fun earrings on Instagram, Lil Shop of Ours.
BTW, I am wearing my Lilla rose headband. It blends in nicely but tames down the poufs.

Skirt: Mom made it~~Jacket: Blank NYC~~Boots: Mix. No 6-DSW

Even red which is a common color for winter can be perfect for the bright color challenge. I hadn’t worn this plaid skirt in ages, so I pulled it out. You can see how I styled it ages ago for our a-line skirt posts.

Sometimes this skirt seems old-fashioned, so I styled it with stripes and a moto jacket to give it a more modern feel.

I consider a hat a fabulous tool in an outfit. Sure, sometimes I wear them because of a bad hair day, but not today. Today I used it to bookend the red boots.

Other’s Bright Colors

I was so happy with all the women that joined in this week with the Bright Color Challenge. Feel free to add your photo to next week’s FB post in the comments or send me an email with your look (
