Simple, Elegant Dresses for Wedding Guests Over 50

8 total views

Wedding season is near, and wedding save-the-dates and invitations have started to arrive in the mail. This post will be helpful if you’ve sent in your RSVP and are now clueless about what you should wear. I’m featuring three elegant dresses for wedding guests to wear, and I’m sure you’ll find something you’ll like.

I typically begin my search for a dress after learning details about the wedding day. I like to know the type of location (a ballroom, a country club, a rustic venue like a barn, etc.) and what month of the year (so I know how warm or cool to dress). I also consider if the couple has mentioned a dress code on their invitation.

Once I have all of those details, it’s time to start shopping! If you are overwhelmed with the wide selection of dresses out there, start with one of the dresses below. They are versatile, flattering, and affordable, and all three are available in a variety of colors.

Elegant Dresses for Wedding Guests

Emerald A-Line Midi Dress

The first dress I have styled is this beautiful deep green a-line dress. It features a v-neckline and elbow length sheer sleeves. The lace material is very fitting for a wedding and makes the dress feel feminine. Since wedding days can be very long, it’s important to choose a comfortable dress. This one checks that box since the material has a lot of stretch.

I paired this knee length dress with this stunning emerald green velvet and gold clutch. It has a detachable gold chain allowing you to carry it on your shoulder, or you can remove it as I did. It’s just the right size for my phone, key, lipstick, and tissues! If you choose a different color dress, this clutch also comes in black, pink, gold, and maroon. I love the art-deco look of this clutch, and I think it makes a gorgeous statement.

If you’re wearing this to a wedding in a cooler month or in the evening, you may even consider grabbing a wrap to go around your shoulders. I thought the v detail on the back was super pretty as well. If you have insecurities about your legs or knees, this dress is a great length as it shows off just the right amount of leg. Here are a few wraps you could throw over your shoulders in the cool of the evening.

Your friends and family will think you spent a lot more on this dress than you actually did, since it only costs $35! It also comes in so many other gorgeous colors like navy, red, gray, purple, and pink. This is a dress you can re-wear in the future, as this fabric and silhouette is appropriate for weddings in all four seasons.

Sleeveless Navy Lace Cocktail Dress

I absolutely love this next dress! After seeing this dress had 18,000 4.5 star ratings on Amazon, I knew I had to try it. This sleeveless lace cocktail dress is so fun, flattering, and full of personality. After all, we don’t have to dress boring and matronly just because we are over 50!

The lace at the neck and the shoulders make the dress cool and breathable for spring and summer weddings without being too revealing. You could definitely get by with wearing a traditional nude bra with this dress, but you could also do a strapless (this one is my favorite!) if you’re worried about your straps being seen.

It pairs so perfectly with this acrylic flower clutch with gold accents. It has several different colors of flowers, making it versatile and able to be carried with a wide variety of outfits long after the wedding is over. Can you believe this clutch cost under $24?

I love it from the back just as much as the front! The slip ends several inches before the lace doeallowingows the details of the lace on the hem to shine. It does hug the body a little more than the first one, so you may want to consider adding shape wear.

I think navy is a very safe color choice for a wedding, especially since it is flattering with so many different skin tones and hair colors. If you don’t love navy or you’re trying to match the wedding’s color palette, this dress comes in 19 different shades. I am also a big fan of the blush, light blue, and light violet for spring weddings. Bonus…the clutch would match any of those colors!

Champagne Lace A-Line Cocktail Dress

The last dress I tried was this champagne lace a-line cocktail dress. I knmanylot of my readers don’t like to show off their arms, but with this dress, you can choose the sleeve length. It comes in sleeveless, short sleeves, or 3/4 sleeves (like I am wearing), so you can choose the sleeve length you are comfortable with. There is an attached ribbon bow that helps to define your waist.

How stunning is this glitter and marble acrylic clutch? It looks so chic and elegant. I can see myself wearing this on a date night with Joe goingout to dinner with the girls! The chain is detachable, but I find this style easier to carry with the strap.

I wore my regulday-to-dayday bra with this, but if I were truly heading to a wedding, I would instead wear my strapless bra. I added my favorite Cross Charm on a Gold Vermeil Chain and the long Tania Coin Pearl necklace to tie in the clutch and give this dress a little oomph!

Which dress was your favorite? Do you have any weddings to attend this year?
