Three Persons In One And The Role They Each Play

Last week, a comment was left on my Sunday post about prayer. The comment said that she was confused about who to pray to. Do you pray to God, or do you pray to Jesus? I can understand the confusion, so I wanted to talk about the Holy Trinity this week. Let’s look at the three persons in one and each role they play in the Holy Trinity.

Before I go into that, let me tell you a little bit about me. Hello, I’m Tania Stephens; it’s nice to meet you. I’m married to my husband, Joe, and we’ve been married for 36 years. I have three children, five grandchildren, and a spoiled pooch named Lucy Lu.

I am a wife to Joe. I’m a companion, a confidant, and a partner. We navigate life together, and we’ve had many struggles and many moments of sheer bliss.

I’m a mother to my children and a grandmother to my grandchildren. I’ve been a doctor to my children when they’ve been sick or hurt. Getting cough syrup down a sick child is not easy, but using the choo-choo train method helped when they were young. I’ve also been a teacher and a disciplinarian, although I was better at teaching than I was at discipline. My children and grandchildren have different names for me. Sometimes I am mother which is when they want to get my attention or if they are not pleased with a decision I made. Other times, I am mom, which is probably the name they use the most often. However, when they are wanting something, I become mommy. They know that is the term that pulls my heartstrings the most. The grandbabies call me Nana Tania or NeeNee. The three in Tennessee call me nana, while the two in Virginia call me neenee. Either way, I’m their grandmother, and I answer no matter what they call me.

You know me as Tania, the blogger from 50 Is Not Old. I come to you daily in your inbox with good news that there is a new post on my blog. Each day I try to bring you joy, inspiration, confidence, and I usually use fashion and beauty as my tools. On Sundays, I set that day aside, and fashion and beauty take a back seat so that I can give God the glory for all that He has given me.

As you can see, I’m one person, although I have different roles and jobs depending on who knows me.

Now, let’s talk about the Holy Trinity. The Holy Trinity is comprised of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Sometimes it is difficult for us to comprehend that they are all one, even though they have different names and different roles.

God is the Creator of all things. He created the universe and all living things. God is also our Heavenly Father. The Father is seen as the first person of the Trinity and the source of all that exists. He is the Creator and sustainer of the universe and is often referred to as God the Father. He loves us unconditionally and will never forsake us. He is our Lord. This name reflects God’s sovereignty and His role as the supreme authority over all things. And, He is the Great Physcian and Healer.

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

Deuteronomy 32:6

Is this the way you repay the Lord, you foolish and unwise people? Is he not your Father, your Creator, who made you and formed you?

Psalm 103:2-3

Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,

Jesus Christ, is seen as the second person of the Trinity and is believed to be both fully human and fully divine. Jesus is the Son of God. God gave us the gift of Jesus to show us a living example of how to live our lives. Jesus is the one who became flesh and lived among humanity, and through his death and resurrection, he offered salvation and redemption to all people. Jesus is our Savior, and through Him, we now have a chance to spend eternity in Heaven. He is The Way, the Truth, and the Life. Jesus is the only way we can come to know God and live in relationship with Him. His truth is needed so that we may better understand the world and our place in it. Jesus is the source of life, and only through him can we have the possibility of eternal life.

1 John 5:20

20 We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

John 1:29

29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

John 14:6

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity and is seen as the presence of God in the world, working in the hearts and minds of believers. The Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost is our helper, our advocate, our comforter, and our counselor. Holy Spirit’s role is to provide comfort, guidance, and support to believers and to help them to understand and live according to God’s will. He dwells in us and helps us to grow in our faith and live a life that reflects the love and grace of God.

John 14:26

26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

John 16:12-15

12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”

Ezekiel 36:26-27

26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit are all God. They each have different roles and jobs to play, but they are still God. When we pray to God, invoke the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, as the mediator. Reach out to Holy Spirit throughout your day. He is your best friend, and He will guide you in all that you do.

The Holy Trinity can be hard to understand, and I will be the first to say that I probably don’t have a good grasp of it all. I urge you to do your own research and not to rely on me or any other person for your information.

I hope that my simple breakdown is helpful to you.

To God Goes The Glory!!!

Have A Blessed Day!
