What I love this week: head to toe edition
Happy Friday, mes amis! We’re currently battening down the hatches for the next big winter storm hitting Southern California. It’s been much colder than normal, windy, there are flood watches where we live and actual blizzard warnings for the mountain areas here! (My sympathies to those of you who have already been slammed with snow and bitter cold!)
I’m working on the next installment of my Effortless Style series for next week, but today have a few random recommendations to share…
A find for fine hair…
OK, so “beachy waves” 🌊 have never been in my hairstyle repertoire. 😆 I have thin, fine, mostly straight hair, which is probably why I never paid much attention to this product. But I saw it recommended as a volumizing product for fine hair and thought I’d give it a try.
I’m a low-effort type when it comes to my hair. I don’t want a complicated routine. And with my hair’s texture, I find most styling products eventually weigh it down.
I spray at the roots while damp, and then do my usual quick blowdry + scrunch. It gives my hair some lift and makes it look fuller. Even if I run a brush through it, my hair still looks fuller without feeling stiff. And it doesn’t go flat again after a couple of hours. There’s a very mild fragrance that dissipates when dry, doesn’t linger.
A favorite, updated
J.Crew released a bunch of new stuff for spring this week, so while I was running some errands at the mall, I stopped in to see if they’d hit my local store yet. Very few of the new pieces were out, except this one.
I think many of us have probably had a “Jackie” cardigan in our wardrobe at one time or another. But the last few years, the quality just wasn’t there. The fabric felt dish-raggy and the colors were lackluster. What first caught my eye yesterday as I walked by a table of these sweaters were the colors and the texture of the fabric. (Ribbed, more substantial, and has a nice drape.) They have a much higher quality look and feel than the old cotton version.
A simple cardigan like this can be a great piece for travel, as it can be worn multiple ways. Wear buttoned as top & layer underneath a jacket, or open as a top layer over a tee. Tie around your shoulders as a scarf alternative. I wish I’d had time to try one for size, but will try to go back next week. Several colors, sizes XX-Small to 3X.
Dressed-up flats
It’s that time of year when we start thinking about weddings and other special occasions coming up in the next months. If you need a dressier shoe with a low heel and a closed toe that will be comfortable in warmer weather, these are worth a look. they’re also offered in gold, and a very Chanel-esque beige canvas with a black toe.
I ordered the gold to try for size, and am seriously considering keeping them. They run true-to-size, and don’t slip around when I walk. There’s also a version with a 2″ block heel, if that’s more your style.
I think they’d also look great with jeans and blazer!
If slingbacks aren’t your thing, these patent ankle strap flats are pretty cute too, though I wish there were more colors offered.
Stay safe wherever you are, and have a lovely weekend!
Do you ever feel discouraged? Maybe like you’re not doing enough? I’ve been battling that feeling lately, and it…
