House of the Dragon Season 2 Will Deliver Dragons and Gore on Schedule
Your favorite dragon show will remain on schedule despite recent major shakeups in Hollywood. According to Variety, a source close to production says House of the Dragon, HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel/spin-off series, will continue filming. On May 2, the Writers Guild of America announced it had authorized a strike when talks with The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers for a new contract stalled. Shows and movies will have to go without a dedicated team of writers, potentially stalling or halting the progress of any upcoming media.
House of the Dragon, however, won’t suffer delays. Scripts for the show’s highly anticipated second season have been finished “for some time.”
While the scripts will be unable to be edited during filming (neither by WGA members or their U.K. counterparts), the show at least has the essential material it needs to continue production. U.K. members of WGA reportedly worked around the clock over the weekend to ensure the show’s scripts were complete before the impending strike. So, at least for now, that 2024 premiere date for Season 2 isn’t in jeopardy.
Season 2 will have tension seriously ramped up after a wild Season 1 finale. Alicent and Rhaenrya, former friends turned rivals, began to draw battle lines and strategize around both of their family’s paths to the throne. And in a gut-wrenching final scene, we see Alicent’s son, Aemond, accidentally (or maybe on purpose?) kill Lucerys, Rhaenrya’s youngest son—via dragon attack. If all with production goes to plan, we’ll see all the political scheming, violence, and dragon-fighting we loved in Season 1 sometime in summer or fall of 2024.
